In the ancient story in Genesis Eve is confronted by a serpent. A talking, walking serpent. A beautiful and subtle creature. It tricks her into committing rebellion against God, bringing her husband into the sin, and through Adam's sin bringing the whole human race down. Now what thinking 21st century person would dare to say he believed such stuff? Yet, on June 4, 2006 the readers of newspapers around the world read a report that a woman in India fell in love with and married a serpent. And this an ordinary cobra not something of the Garden of Eden variety. She was married according to the traditional customs of Hinduism. 2,000 guests enjoyed the reception. Even though the bride claims "We communicate in a peculiar way." The snake did not leave the ant hill in which it resides to be at the ceremony. A brass snake statue was the stand in. Priests chanted to seal the union, and apparently everything is honky dory with the religion and government. I wonder if this modern day bride believes the story of Eve. All religions are not the same.
